On December 4, the House Committee on Natural Resources, Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans, and Insular Affairs (Chair, Representative John Fleming, R LA-4) is scheduled to hold a hearing on H.R. 3099, the Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper Conservation Act of 2013. H.R. 3099 proposes to transfer management of Gulf of Mexico red snapper to the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission. Among other measures, this transfer would include the development of a fishery management plan and the preparation of a data collection strategy for red snapper. Representative Jeff Miller (R FL-1) introduced the bill. The Deputy Assistant Administrator for Regulatory Programs of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service, Sam Rauch, is scheduled to testify.
