Senate Hearing on Ship Fleet Recapitalization

On October 11, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard [Chair, Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK)] will hold a hearing titled, “Building Fleets of the Future: Coast Guard and NOAA Fleet Recapitalization”. NOAA’s testimony will address ship procurement, recapitalization strategies, the status of current procurement efforts, and homeporting ships in Alaska.

The Director of NOAA’s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations and the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps, Rear Admiral Michael J. Silah (two star), is scheduled to testify. Other witnesses are expected from the U.S. Coast Guard, the the Government Accountability Office, and the Congressional Research Service.

Senate Hearing on Salmon

On October 20 (tentative), the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard [Chair, Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK)] may hold a field hearing in Anchorage, Alaska, on salmon issues.

The Assistant Administrator of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service, Chris Oliver, may testify. Other witnesses may include state officials and stakeholders.
